Parents on social media spend a fiar amount of time looking at other peoples posts. Do you ever look at Facebook and feel jealous of the life someone else is leading? They are always happy in their pictures, or posting about the great things their kids are doing. There is a growing phenomenon around social media, the new and improved “Keeping up with the Joneses” or Facebook envy. What does it look like?
I was complimenting a friend (Carol) recently about the pictures of her young child. During the course of the conversation Carol mentioned that someone was amazed that her child was always so happy. It took Carol a moment to realize the “disconnect” for her friend. Of course the child always looks happy on Facebook, Carol never posts pictures of the child when she is crying, angry, pouting or driving everyone insane. The pictures are joyful moments.
As the connections continue through social media, keep a few things in mind.
So stop trying to keep up with the virtual Joneses and be grateful for what you celebrate daily in your life.
